E-commerce In China: Disruptive Innovations and How They Changed the Games
In 2018, the size of Chinese netizens has reached 802 million. Among them, 788 million are mobile users.
Picture this: a pickpocket sobbing in the streets of Shanghai after losing his income because people pay everything with their smartphone instead of cash. This could almost be true in 2018 China, a country where the mobile Internet controls most of the e-commerce transactions.
Westerners who travel to China are always impressed by the changing landscape of Chinese cities. Meanwhile, the virtual landscape is actually moving at an even faster speed. Mobile e-commerce has utterly changed the behavior of Chinese consumers and completely disrupted the business rules of traditional industries.
This talk is based on a field study done for the master thesis of the speaker. In this talk, you will get insights into the unique e-commerce ecosystem of China based on the socioeconomic environment there. Cases will also be given to show the success of Internet disruption and thinking in China. For example, in the cases of Alibaba, Ant Finance, Tencent (Wechat), Xiaomi, Didi, and Meituan.
In the end, you will be invited to a brainstorm about where the big data, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things will lead China to the next internet era and the opportunities of both Chinese and Swiss companies in these trends.
